We are excited that you are taking your first step towards greater health. We want you to feel at ease that you have consulted our office. When you arrive for your first visit… you can expect the following.
During your initial visit we will have you fill out some brief paperwork. In this paperwork we will have you describe your health history as well as your health goals. This allows us to get to know you and your daily activities of life.
The doctor will come in and review your history. At this point in time a brief exam will be performed using motion palpation. This is when the doctor feels the motion of the spine starting in the neck region down to the lower back region. The doctor is looking for any areas that are restricted and not moving properly. If you are a good candidate for chiropractic care, the doctor will recommend treatment. Prior to treatment a detailed orthopedic, neurological, and radiological (x-ray) examination will be performed.
The orthopedic and neurological tests are performed to let the doctor know specifically what type of problem that you may be having. It could be a muscular, disc, or nerve root problem. All three are treated differently. The specific test performed during the exam will distinguish between the three possibilities.
X-rays offer a detailed view of your spine and helps to reveal misalignments of the vertebra which can result in stress on the spine. X-rays help your doctor determine the type of adjustment you need and can rule out the possibility of arthritic and pathological problems.
The sum of all information gained from the health history, physical examination and x-rays are used for diagnosing the problem and developing a specific treatment plan for your particular problem. In addition, daily activities of life are evaluated such as posture, lifting, exercising and ergonomics.
